THIS golden anniversary shot of the Saints shows them during their full peak.
It marks the day when they trounced Barrow 71pts to 15, at home.
And many famous faces peer out above the unfamiliar white strip, with wide chestbanding.
An anonymous supporter forwarded this shot from February 1959 and lists the powerpacked line-up. He’s so proud of the picture that he’s named the players across their chests.
Back (left to right): V. Karalius, Terry, Vollenhoven, Prinsloo, Fearis, Bowden, Briggs, Huddart. Front: are D.Karalius, Moses, Greenall, Murphy and Howard.
For the record, the flying Vollenhoven scored five tries, Greenall bagged three, Murphy two, and Prinsloo, Howard, Terry and D. Karalius a try. Fearis added 13 goals and one try.

Clinkywood, Leicester says...

To be fair to Barrow they did play for most of the game with twelve men after St.Helens born Joe Ball picked up a serious injury early in the first half.In fact after twenty five minutes Barrow were leading 10-7.Then Vollenhoven made it 10-10 with his second try. After Saints took the lead on the half hour mark with a try by Abe Terry Barrow collapsed with Saints scoring a further twelve tries. It was my first full season as a Saints supporter and I can remember those games better than last seasons games.
