CHESHIRE League leaders Knutsford made in seven wins in seven as they edged passed Billinge 2-0 on Saturday.

Knutsford proved that their spot at the top of the division is no false position as they beat an understrength Storks on Saturday.

Billinge can hold their heads high as there was nothing in it and - apart from two moments of lack of concentration - were in the game for the full 90 minutes.

Whilst the Clarets attack may have not had too many chances the defensive performance from the team was excellent with Dave Blakeney and Callum Lees both having excellent games along with the ever dependable Gary Kenny and Chris Cottington.

The game was far from a classic and took 20 minutes to catch alight as Knutsford went through the gears with Ben Brooks shot being deflected wide.

Three minutes later the visitors went 1-0 up when David Owens was left unmarked at a corner and from the edge of the box blasted the ball into the back of the net.

Billinge's response was immediate as man-of-the-match Steve Wolhuter went close from distance.

With the game going from end to end Billinge's keeper Jamie Scott saved well from Brian Walsh while Steve Taylor tested the Knutsford custodian Sam Moore at the other head.

The half finished with Billinge producing the best move of the match that resulted in Ryan Sephton heading just wide.

The second period saw Billinge have their best moments of the game as they kept the ball well for a 15-minute period.

However the well-organised Robins defence held firm with Liam Platt's shot into the side netting being the closest The Storks got to equalising.

On 63 minutes disaster struck as Kenny's header back to keeper Scott held up a little short and with Brooks and Scott colliding the referee Darren Brown pointed to the spot.

It was one of those decisions that are often given the way of the forward but after the game Scott was adamant the ball had gone dead when the collision occurred.

The decision had been given and Owens coolly despatched the spot-kick to double his goals tally on the day and Knutsford's lead.

This basically killed the game as a spectacle and as much as Billinge tried to claw back the deficit it wasn't to be as the excellent Knutsford outfit held on for a 2-0 victory.

Next up for The Storks is a visit to Poynton next Saturday.
