PILKS bounced back from the disappointing midweek derby defeat at Windle to dispatch a resilient Cheadle Town Reserves.

The opposition started well as they tried to get a foothold in the game but Pilks withstood this initial onslaught and controlled the game for its most part.

Matty Taylor returning after three months out with an ankle injury missed an early opportunity to open his account and the keeper produced a good save to deny Smailes from a corner.

Some neat play saw Luke Sephton hit the post on 25 minutes.

Five minutes later and Brad Smailes drove through the opposition defence before cutting the ball back for Phil Marsh who shimmied the keeper and produced a cool finish.

With 10 minutes of the half left, veteran Danny Hughes made a driving run down the wing and played a neat one-two with Taylor before he scooped it over the keeper to double Pilks lead.

The game as a contest was virtually over when the second goal went in.

Pilks dominated possession in the second half and Taylor, Sephton and Marsh all had chances to extend the lead but failed to convert. In the final minute, youngster David McGrath burst through from midfield but his chip hit the bar.

Whilst not at their ruthless best in front of goal, Pilks put in a solid performance to dominate this game and set themselves up nicely for another local derby game against FC St Helens in midweek.
