A HIGHLY contested Depot Cup Final saw Rainhill take the initiative from the start but it as Sankey Vale who made the first impact with a goal from Johnny McDonough. However, Rainhill’s pressure quickly saw Joe Croxford’s powerful header level the scores a minute later.
Rainhill’s Ian Morris then gave them a 2-1 lead at half time with a precision finish on 39 minutes.
An unfortunate own goal by Sankey Vale that extended Rainhill’s lead but with 10 minutes to go Joseph Taylor was at the back post to nod in providing an exciting last 10 minutes.
Despite pressure from Sankey Vale Rainhill showed their resilience to hold on for victory.
