PILKS completed their Presidents Cup group games by cruising to a 6-1 win against Rylands Reserves.

The hosts should have been ahead after only two mins but captain Graham Boylan failed to convert the penalty after Taylor had been fouled.

Pilks were in complete control of the game from the beginning and should have been a few goals up before Frazer opened the scoring on 22 minutes.

Smailes then missed a golden chance on 25 mins before Taylor’s shot hit the hand of the Rylands defender to give Pilks another penalty.

This time Boylan made no mistake and dispatched it into the corner to make it 2-0.

Taylor then blazed over the bar from a Boylan pull back before neatly finishing a free kick to make it 3-0 inside 30 mins.

Pilks swift passing play and penetrative runs from Clarke and Smailes was causing all sorts of problems for Rylands and Clarke got his reward on 41 minutes when he converted Smailes cross to make it 4-0 at half time.

4 mins into the 2nd half Gillam drove down the left before crossing to the unmarked Boylan to tap in his 2nd of the game.

Boylan should have completed his hat-trick on 60 mins but somehow scuffed his shot wide. Pilks final goal came on 65 mins when Gillam again drove through the middle before playing in Smailes who made it 6-0.

There should have been more as Boylan, Gillam and Clarke all missed chances and as the game fizzled out Rylands pulled a consolation goal back.

It was an all too easy win for Pilks with the only blight on the day being the sight of the league’s top goalscorer, Matty Taylor limping off after 70 mins with what seems to be a re-occurrence of the hamstring injury that kept him out of 6 games earlier in the season.
