ST HELENS Town lost their home pre-season encounter against Runcorn Linnets 3-1 at Prescot Cables last Thursday but ran out 3-2 winners at Lincoln Moorlands Railway on Saturday.
Thursday’s encounter against the side which has finished the past three seasons as runners-up in the North West Counties Premier Division was a tough task.
But they led through a seventh-minute goal from Danny Brady until Linnets equalised through Kyle Hamid in the 34th minute.
The visitors brought on virtually half a new team at the resumption and seized the initiative with a Brian Matthews double in the 51st and 59th minutes.
Town were unlucky not to score at least one further goal as the game wore on.
The squad faced severe traffic delays when they headed to former Northern Counties East outfit Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Despite the disruption they took an early 2-0 lead through a George Lomax brace.
Railway fought back and with only 20 minutes remaining equalised at 2-2.
A Beckham-esque free kick from the corner of the box in the 89th minute from Chris Lomax secured the victory.
Town start the new season at Carlisle City on Saturday, kick off at 3pm. There are a limited number of seats, priced £10, available for supporters wishing to travel on the club coach. Visit sthelenstownafc.com for more details.
