RAINHILL shared the points against championship favourites Cammell Laird in this West Cheshire League Division 1 encounter.

The first half was dominated by the defences, with very few clear-cut chances, but the second period brought a more positive attitude from both teams.

Rainhill moved centre half Tyler Jefferies up front and had an immediate affect with several good goal scoring chances.

The break-through came for Town mid-way through the half when Paul Bathgate slotted home a fine goal following a decisive move through mid-field.

Rainhill could have increased the lead but for the intervention of the linesman, who had spotted an infringement that no one else on the touch line had seen.

As the game went into the final minutes, Cammell Laird increased the pressure and after hitting an upright in a sustained attack, they were rewarded with a penalty, which was calmly slotted home by Kearney.

A fair result in a game which was a credit to the league.

The Reserves progressed to the 3rd round of the Liverpool Junior Cup thanks to a 5-3 penalty shoot-out after drawing 5-5 with Litherland Remyca Reserves.

Unfortunately the 3rds went out of the Intermediate Cup losing 2-1 to Custys FC.

The 4ths gained a creditable draw with highly placed Grange SC in a Warrington League match.

Next week sees the 1st team take on Blacon FC in the Pyke Trophy and the Reserves travel to Bootle Reserves.
