SCARBOROUGH came from two goals behind to snatch a draw with two late goals in a thrilling encounter at Hope Street.

Cables went two goals up on 77 minutes and will regret missing a chance in added time to go 3-1 ahead and put the game beyond the reach of Scarborough who equalised in the fourth minute of added time.

Scarborough kicked off playing towards the Hope Street End. Cables were awarded a free kick on the halfway line taken by Prince who placed it into the penalty area for Jack Phillips who appeared to be brought down as he contested the ball with a Scarborough defender but Cables had to be content with a corner kick.

Prince took the corner which O’Reilly headed towards goal but the ball was cleared by the Scarborough defence. Ben Morrow was brought into action in goal when he came out to collect a long ball under pressure from Scarborough’s Clayton and Blott.

Morrow was in action again when he blocked a shot by Cameron Murray who hit the post with his second attempt. Ridley then produced a cross from the left for Blott which was just too long and drifted out of play for a goal kick.

After surviving this spell of pressure, Cables began to get more into the game and Neil Prince tried a long range effort which sailed wide of goal.

Cables however began to press and were rewarded with the opening goal on 14 minutes. Sam Corlett delivered a dipping cross from the left which dropped invitingly at the feet of Jack Phillips at the far post who made no mistake from 15 yards.

The goal lifted Cables and Andy Harper produced a great tackle on the halfway line to dispossess Cameron Murray.

Ben Morrow then saved Davidson’s shot from close range. Cables produced a fine passing move between Prince, Harper, Jenkins and Corlett which ended with Prince’s shot being blocked. Cables were in control of the game at this stage and looked likely to increase their lead.

Cables wasted a glorious opportunity on 36 minutes when Cracknell under pressure from Jenkins and Corlett lost possession and Jack Phillips with an empty goal to aim at fired over the bar.

Scarborough on one of their rare excursions into the Cables half threatened down the left side, Metcalfe’s cross being taken comfortably by Ben Morrow. Jack Philips was brought down with a reckless challenge by Dean Lisles on the halfway line which the referee decide was worthy of only a yellow card and not a red one. Neil Prince also received a yellow card for his reaction to the challenge by Lisles.

The free kick taken by O’Reilly was cleared to the edge of the penalty area where Cables received another free kick for a foul on Corlett.

The free kick taken by Neil Prince struck the underside of the cross bar and bounced outwards to deny Cables a second goal.

Scarborough made a change at the start of the second half, James Beadle replacing Keiran McCaffrey. Beadle was soon in action taking a throw in from which Murray passed inside to Davidson who shot wide of the far post. Jack Phillips responded with a short cross intended for James Jenkins which Scarborough headed clear.

On 52 minutes Scarborough left back Steve Ridley received a yellow card for a foul on Sam Corlett. The free kick taken by Prince fell for Jack Phillips whose shot was blocked for a corner.

The corner taken by Prince sailed out of play and over the top of the goal. Scarborough had the ball in the net on 60 minutes through Clayton but it was ruled out for offside.

Prince played a long ball through to Jack Phillips but Scarborough defender Paul Robson was alert to the danger and skilfully shepherded the ball out of play for a goal kick.

The game was flowing from end to end, and Danny Flood headed clear a cross from Scarborough’s Steve Ridley. Jack Phillips then had an opportunity for Cables but Cracknell saved well.

Scarborough made their second change on 65 minutes, Bradshaw replacing Murray. James Jenkins then found himself through on goal but hesitated and was tackled by a defender. Cables made a double substitution on 74 minutes, Callum Gardner and Ben Greenop replacing James Jenkins and Neil Prince.

Cables appeared to have put the game to bed when they scored their second goal on 77 minutes. Joe Cracknell in attempting to deal with a back pass from a Scarborough defender was put under pressure from Callum Gardner and lost possession.

The ball was picked up by Jack Phillips on the edge of the penalty area who calmly chipped the ball over Cracknell and into the net for an exquisite finish.

However, Scarborough responded immediately and pulled a goal back inside a minute. A long ball through the Cables defence put Gary Bradshaw clear and although Morrow managed to push away Bradshaw’s shot, Blott scored from the rebound. Liam Hollett was shown a yellow card for kicking the ball away after committing a foul and Scarborough’s Matthew Plummer followed him into the referee’s note book for a foul on Jack Phillips.

With time running out, Scarborough threw everything at Cables in search of the equaliser, Bradshaw played the ball threw to Blott who neatly slotted the ball into the net only to be ruled offside. Three minutes into added time, Cables caught Scarborough on the break with Gardner and Collett through on goal with only Cracknell to beat. However, instead of squaring the ball to the unmarked Corlett, Gardner chose to shoot and Cracknell saved comfortably. Cracknell launched the ball forward as Scarborough made one last attack, forcing a corner. From the corner taken by Metcalfe, Dean Lisles rose above the Cables defence to head home at the far post for the equaliser.
