FRESH from impressing his senior Liverpool debut in Moscow last Thursday, Conor Coady will be running out a little closer to home this evening when he skippers the under 19s in the latest of the NextGen European clashes at Langtree Park.

The 19-year-old midfielder from Haydock accepts the Reds have a job on their hands to qualify after losing all their three away games so far, but he is relishing the prospect of running out in his home town tonight.

Former Rainford High pupil Coady said: “It will be fantastic to play there, with me being from St Helens – and being proud of where I am from.

“Hopefully we can give the fans a good result.”

Liverpool under 19s were pipped 3-2 by champions Inter Milan in the opener and a 2-1 defeat away to Borussia Dortmund followed before last week’s 3-0 battering at this evening’s opponents Rosenborg.

There was mitigation in that loss – with plenty of youngsters, including Coady, on duty for the first team in the Europa League last week, But without a point to their name – every game is a must win now if Liverpool are to progress to the group stages.

Coady hopes to feature in all three Next Gen home games at Langtree Park, plus the under 21 clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

“We have got a good reserve team here – a good under 21s so it is brilliant for us to come here. It is a fantastic ground and we will have a good following here.

“I am hoping to be involved in all of the games in St Helens,” he said.

Kick-off is at 7pm and admission is just £5 for adults and £2 for children and concessions.
