Two wins from three matches sees St Helens Town fight their way out of relegation zone

Two victories in three games in just five days has seen St Helens Town fight their way out of the relegation zone but with nine games remaining the job is far from complete.

In the Premier Division; Parr Cons enjoyed a 5-3 win over local rivals Bold Rangers; Rainford N End had a convincing 0-5 away at Penlake. Newstreet also enjoyed the away day with a 0-3 win at York Diamonds also had a away win 0-2 against local rivals Prescot Sun. Clock Face and St Helens Town Res battled a 2-2 draw at Clock Rec.

 Prescot Cables were defeated by Clitheroe at Hope Street in a game played on a pitch saturated by heavy rain. Both teams struggled in the heavy conditions to control the ball and pass it accurately.

St. Helens Town earned a valuable point on Saturday, with a goalless draw at AFC Blackpool’s Jepson Way ground, but it should have been three points. Charlie Stoker, Town’s 16-year old striker, was wrestled to the ground in the penalty area with a tackle any of the Saints’ forwards would have been proud of yet, unaccountably, referee Ian Gittins, failed to penalise the obvious infringement and Town were left with a 0-0 draw to reward their efforts, which lifts them level on points with fellow strugglers Squires Gate, but with two precious matches in hand ahead of their “six-pointer” at Edge Green Street on 23rd March.

Division One: Whaley Bridge closed the gap at the top to ten points following a 2-1 win away at Styal.

Vulcan at the double

Vulcan First Team travelled to Earlstown Athletic in the local derby and came away with a 2-0 win which keeps them in the running for the league title.

Bold Rangers enjoyed a 4-1 home win against Clock Face, York had a good 0-4 away win at Sutton unction and Penlake First give the club a double with a 4-2 win against St Helens Town Res.
