Saints 30 London 0

SAINTS comfortably saw off London at Langtree Park in a game that never really got going.

The liberal dishing out of penalties from Mr Silverwood stopped the momentum of the game that was as flat as a pancake at times.

But nevertheless Saints will be content at effectively sealing a top four finish going into the final league round next week.

For Saints there was another top drawer display from skipper Paul Wellens, who grabbed another two tries to take his haul for the season to an impressive 23.

In the pack there were stand-out displays from Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, bringing plenty of enthusiasm and energy against the club that nurtured him.

Sia Soliola also gave his usual ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ tackling display as Saints ended the three match winning streak of the Londoners.

Tony Puletua ran a good line on to James Roby’s pass to open Saints’ account after four minutes, but the fans had to wait until four minutes from the break to extend that lead.

A fine handling movement saw Jonny Lomax up in support to pierce the Broncos defence, before he turned the ball back inside for Mark Flanagan to power home.

Flanagan added his second when London made a hash of Lomax’s grubber seven minutes after the restart, before Wellens battled his way over for his opener. London had their best period of pressure, with numerous penalties and drop outs, but the home defence did not yield.

Saints countered and had the game sewn up when Wellens showed his remarkable tenacity to get the ball over the whitewash again.

Clearly playing well within themselves, Saints coasted home and added another touchdown from Anthony Laffranchi in the dying seconds to give the scoreboard an even more emphatic look.
