IT’S the DVD every Saints fan will want in their Christmas stocking.
And five lucky Star readers will get the chance to win copies of No. 1 Paul Wellens, Ron Lee’s testimonial tribute to the Saints legend.
The DVD showcases Wello’s amazing contribution to rugby league from a shy, but sports-mad youngster at St Teresa’s to today’s finished article... a player of superlative skills, who has earned massive respect from not only the fans but his fellow players too.
The DVD feautures many of Paul’s international, Challenge Cup and Grand Final appearances, plus what stars like Paul Sculthorpe, Keiron Cunnigham and Sean Long have to say about him.
North West Video has been keeping St Helens people in the picture for a quarter of a century with the Peeps in the Past series of potted history videos and DVD’s.
Proprietor, Ron Lee, began videoing weddings, school nativities and assemblies back in 1985 which is when he set up the St Helens-based business.
The company quickly became known for producing training, promotional and information videos including, Ikea, Rail Track, St Helens MBC and Oldham MBC.
Ron said: “I’ve had a great relationship with Saints RLFC over the years, ever since producing the successful Rugby’s Coming Home video Saints Go Marching On club history video in 1997.”
“It seemed a natural progression to produce a DVD about one of Rugby League’s local legends, even more so given that this is his testimonial year.
“After meeting with Paul (known to all his fans as Wello) and suggesting that the DVD should be about his life, Paul said he was only 30...but what an extraordinary life he’s had.”
This Sunday, November 29, Saints star Paul Wellens will be visiting Asda St Helens to launch this testimonial DVD in the store.
The DVD will be then be on sale in the store in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
On Sunday, fans have the opportunity to meet Paul and purchase a special signed edition of the DVD with collectable bookmark, only currently available at Asda St Helens.
Store manager, Ian Talbot, said: “We are proud of our on-going relationship with Saints. We are delighted to support Paul in his testimonial year.”
Paul will be at the store from 12.30 to 2:30pm.
The DVD is available from, Asda in Kirkland Street, HMV, WH Smith, Wardleworths and of course, Saints town centre store and Knowsley Road.
