SAINTS have five players in the 24-man England squad for this autumn’s Four Nations tournament.
James Graham, James Roby, Jon Wilkin and Kyle Eastmond are joined by Scott Moore, who spent last season on-loan to Huddersfield have all been chosen for the squad that will take on World Champions New Zealand, favourites Australia and new boys France There is no place for last year’s tourists Paul Wellens, Ade Gardner, Leon Pryce or Maurie Fa’asavalu.
And after four years of back-to-back rugby that may not be a bad thing for some of those players.
Wellens will now be able to take this rare break to have his knee injury cleaned out.
Eastmond’s selection adds a touch of excitement to the squad - and could get a run at half back or in the three-quarters.
Although very much still a raw talent, Eastmond possesses real pace and creates a real buzz when he touches the ball.
England boss Tony Smith said: “I’m very excited about what he can bring.
“He’s shown his versatility already and he’s able to cover numerous positions and make a fist of each of those.
“He’s an exciting young player and he’s had a big impact on Saints this year and I’m sure he’ll have a big impact for England as well.
“I think he’s a tremendous young player and very exciting and will certainly add a lot of depth to our squad.”
