1. After every round of Magic there is always a grumble, usually from one of the vanquished team, that their game was harder than others. Given the make-up of the Super League there is never really going to be a completely fair way of doing it - derbies, draw or proximity on the table.

True, it does skew the league table - so we either have to live with that or do something radical, like making the Magic fixture one of the regular rounds, or make it a four-pointer and remove two regular home and away rounds from the comp, or remove two regular rounds and have two Magics. That is the only way to stop the league having odd, unfair, fixtures.

Or just get rid of it, which given the lift it gives the year, is not going to happen.

2. It says something about the high benchmark that Saints' class of 2018 set themselves that there was an element of dissatisfaction with a 20 points winning margin over neighbours Widnes.

Although the Vikings have slumped into the bottom four, not helped by injuries, they have not really been hammered by anyone this season - and given the rub of the green would have knocked Leeds out of the Challenge Cup the preceding week.

Put simply, there is no god given right to rock up at any venue and turn on the style against a side that has been game in most of their fixtures against the big boys this year.

Sure, there was plenty of uncharacteristic clocking off defensively in the first half by Saints and some sloppy ball control throughout.

But that feeling that "it doesn't matter if they score now because we'll score again," was cut out in the second half.

3. Saints' first try by Danny Richardson was set up by a surging tackle-busting run by Dom Peyroux.

Once again - bar the 10 minute spell in the sin-bin - Peyroux was aggressive and strong on both sides of the ball to continue his transformation in the red vee.

No wonder he was given the privilege of leading the post match team song.

4. The match marked Justin Holbrook anniversary. And anyone can see what a difference he has made to the club so far.

Saints are winning, top of the league, playing good football and pulling together as one - on and off the field.

The big tests, are, however to come - big cup games and getting the team to Wembley and Old Trafford.

5. Newcastle has hosted Magic for the past four years - and there have been some positive impacts for the game in the area. The crowd at the Newcastle game on Friday night was more than 4,000 but plenty of Bulls fans, missing Magic these days, will have bolstered that.

It is never really clear what the big plan is for the Magic setting. Newcastle is a vibrant city - and fans do enjoy the experience, but it does have all the hallmarks of a stag do without needing a wedding.

6. Ben Barba pulled off one amazing tackle, and scored an equally impressive try.

It gave the Warrington fans who were taunting him with the "Barba's going home" song something to think about. This coming from supporters of a club that "had doubts about" Barba after he opted for Saints over them.

I don't doubt the song will catch on.

The 'will he, won't he' go speculation was always going to rear its head. The same thing happened with Jamie Lyon in 2006.

It is pointless worrying. All we can do is sit back and enjoy him while he is here - and there is plenty to marvel at.
