NO action will be taken against Wigan’s Willie Isa, who was placed on report for a tackle on the back of the legs of Saints forward Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook during the first half of Friday’s game.

The incident was placed on report, but the match review panel said no charge, and declared: “Player makes tackle from behind, making direct contact to back of legs of opponent.

“Contact made around middle of the upper leg. Player has dropped to knee before making contact and is not reckless and does not use excessive force.

“Other defenders controlling the upper body of opponent contribute to taking opponent to the ground.”

Speaking at the weekly press briefing earlier this afternoon, before the panel had given their assessment, Saints boss Justin Holbrook was unhappy with both the tackle and the decision to stop play but then take no action.

Holbrook said: “I just think it is terrible for the game and that there is no need for those type of tackles and that is why we have tried to outlaw them.

“It is terrible for fans to watch that and think that this is part of our game.

“As for calling time off for five minutes to talk to you touch judge and then say play the ball, wrecked any momentum we had with the ball which made no sense.

“But to actually have a tackle like that, and not even give a penalty, after stopping the game is crazy.

“You are rewarding the tackler by calling time off to go to the touch judge. You have let the defence rest for a minute and a half, and we have two more tackles then have to kick the ball.

"If you are going to stop the game for something that looks dangerous it should be a penalty."

Isa was yellow carded in the last minute for a silly push on the same player after Wigan had been given a penalty.
