SAINTS interim coach Sean Long is hoping for some luck in tomorrow night’s Challenge Cup draw.

The three-time Lance Todd Trophy winner wants Saints to regain its love affair with the sport’s most historic competition when they enter with the rest of the top eight sides at round six.

They will be joined by Leeds, Salford and six non-Super League sides, including giant killers Swinton.

After winning three cups in a row between 2006-08, Saints have not been to Wembley since then equalling the eight-year absence until 1987.

It is something Saints – and Long – are keen to change.

Long said: “There were a few shocks in the last round, with Leigh losing and Swinton beating Huddersfield.

“Hopefully we can get a good draw – that would be nice this year because we have not had much luck in the past.

“The Challenge Cup has been part of St Helens’ DNA has been ever since I have played here and likewise with Paul Wellens too. We always had a good run in the cup.

“The Challenge Cup is a totally different competition but it is one we will be going for this year.”

The draw takes place on Tuesday evening at 6.30pm on the BBC News channel and the ties will be played May 12-14.
