BEING hailed as Saints’ first genuine right centre since Matt Gidley is not meant to pile pressure on to new Australian recruit Ryan Morgan.
Rather it is a statement of fact — and one that in tandem with England international Mark Percival gives Saints strike on both sides of the field.
Coach Keiron Cunningham says that his addition gives the team the ability to play a bit different.
He said: “We have genuine strike on both edges now, which we have not had for years.
“We have changed the way we have played slightly.
“Percy and Ryan give us two edges that are quite lethal and gives us a new angle and way of playing.
“I have been watching Ryan train for eight weeks and he is a genuine right centre and we have not had one of those since Matt Gidley’s days.
“They are massive boots to fill and I am shooting for the stars there by saying his name there, and don’t want people to make comparisons.
“But he is a centre who can put his winger in for a try.
“Add to that he is quick, a great defender, good on his feet and has lots of good aspects to his game.
“It will be tough at first with the wet tracks, but he will have plenty of involvement.
“But when the track dries out he’ll definitely find his feet.”
