YOUNG prop Andre Savelio will join Castleford Tigers on loan for the remainder of the season - to gain more game time.

The player has requested the move, having not been selected for the first team since the Magic defeat at Newcastle in May.

Savelio was in the starting 17 at the beginning of the season, but has been in an out of the side this term playing just 10 times.

A Saints statement read: "We naturally wish Andre well in his spell over at the Tigers and will be keeping a keen eye on how he progresses.

"The loan agreement has no recall and Andre cannot play against the Saints."

Although he had a run of four consecutive games as a starting prop in spring, Savelio form has dipped and he has gone behind Greg Richards and Luke Thompson in the pecking order in the last few weeks.

Savelio was an explosive powerhouse when he first erupted into the Saints first team as a 19-year-old in 2014, but his appearances under Nathan Brown were limited to three matches that season.

Although a regular in Keiron Cunningham’s first year in charge 2015, Savelio’s career has stuttered this term and he has not had the same physical impact in the front row.

Savelio does have another year to run on his contract, so a loan move would not necessarily mean the door shutting on the 21 year-old prospect.

Saints would be entitled to a transfer fee for the player they have nurtured since he was 14 if he moves on permanently.
