SAINTS hooker James Roby is as baffled as anyone as to why Sunday’s opponents Huddersfield have struggled this year.

Although injuries took their toll early on in the campaign, they have still been able to boast a strong line up — Saints found to their cost at Magic.

But Roby knows how important it is to forget about things that may or may not affect Giants and focus on what Saints need to bring on Sunday.

Roby said: “Huddersfield have been a bit strange, similar to Leeds and they are both fantastic teams but for whatever reason it is just not happening.

“That said at Magic they beat us pretty convincingly.

“We have moved on from that, but we have got to win this game to keep the pressure on Catalans in fourth.

“We know the threat Huddersfield have got and have played them many times but we need to get our own job right as well as looking after their key men.”

Roby is confident of the team finishing with a flourish, particularly as they expect to get Luke Walsh back imminently and Theo Fages before the year is out.

“Jordan Turner and Wilko have been doing a fantastic job in their absence.

“We have chopped and changed, but Walshy is due back soon.

“Getting genuine halves who read the game and organise will be important.

“The games are getting so close now that they can end up depending on getting one decent kick away,” he said.

Saints have also been bolstered by the return to form and fitness of full back Jonny Lomax who is showing what the club has missed during his two lengthy absences.

Roby feels that Lomax is maturing more into a leadership role and that has been a big bonus for the side on both sides of the ball.

“It is just great having Jonny back.

“He has been hard done to with all of his injuries, but we are a much better side with him in there.

“He is getting back to normal now after being back for quite a few weeks now, and on the defensive front he does quite a lot of talking behind the line.

“He tells us to go left, go right, fill in a gap or get involved in a tackle. If you had a mic on him you would hear him for 80 minutes, he doesn’t stop talking.

“He is good at it too. He is great defensively and with the ball he is a natural attacking player. Give him the ball in open space and there are not many people I would not back against him one on one,” he said.
