ADAM Swift grabbed four tries as Saints rallied from a 12-point deficit to eventually coast to a morale-boosting 48-16 win over Hull KR.

The victory ends a four-match losing streak and the manner in which they executed their tries along the backline will have put a smile on the fans faces after some pretty dismal nights at Langtree Park this term.

At one stage it looked like it was going to be another one of those difficult evenings when Shaun Lunt finished off a long range move on the right, five minutes in.

And then when Chris Clarkson added another for the Robins, the anxiety deepened.

It got worse for Saints with young centre Matty Fleming limping off and then they lost Lama Tasi with a head knock.

The cat would have really been among the pigeons had George Lawler collected Albert Kelly’s inside ball which would have made it 18-0. And there were signs of Saints unraveling under the pressure.

The groans increased when from a penalty Jordan Turner failed to find touch.

But then Saints got a toe-hold when a quick play the ball and some direct running from Wilkin, created overlap for Lomax.

Play switched to the left where Lomax's pass put Swift over at the corner for Saints’ first on 34 minutes, although the full back was walloped for his troubles. He regained his feet after a delay, with Mark Percival missing the touchline conversion.

Swift was on-fire and was over again after kicking over for Lomax to chase and collect the return but the ref ruled a knock on in the process.

A Kyle Amor charge to the line got Saints moving in the right direction, with the ball shifting left again where Mark Percival did well to create a half chance for Swift, who turned Kelly inside out to score his second.

Percival was again just wide with the touchline conversion but Saints went in at half time with belief, trailing by four points, and came out where they left off.

After the restart quick hands again down the left again saw Lomax and Percival combine to send Swift in corner but he just put a foot in touch en route to the line.

Getting the ball out to the wings is what the fans have craved for months, and tonight they had it in abundance.

But the highlight came with a Swift special, the Blackbrooker racing 60 metres, inside and outside of Dixon to beat him for pace to score in the corner to level it at 12-12.

With Turner directing, the makeshift six's half break saw Dom Peyroux shoot on to the ball and pierce the line, with his deft Gidleyesque flick pass to McDonnell allowing the Aussie to do the rest.

McDonnell, normally a full back, seized his chance on the wing after impressing at full back in the Catalans defeat.

He certainly found favour with the home support who chanted his name.

Percival goaled to give Saints a 18-12 lead, and they pressed on in style.

After a Hull KR knock on, Saints piled on the pressure and a long, looping ball from the magnificent Lomax sent Swift over in the corner for his remarkable fourth touchdown of the evening.

Percival kicked the touchline goal to extend the lead to 24-12.

Saints looked for more against a Rovers side that looked increasingly bedraggled, with Peyroux unlucky not to get his hands on a spilled bomb before it went dead.

From the drop out, Joe Greenwood lost ball in first tackle and Rovers made them pay – with a break up the middle from Kelly but Percival somehow got back to stop Lunt.

Kelly was then stopped short on the next play and it looked like Saints were going to ride the storm, but ball out to right where Thomas Minns cross in the corner.

Dixon failed with the conversion but from 24-16 Saints went to town.

Turner's break pieced the line, but with no support he took the tackle.

But with Rovers back-pedalling they swung the ball left where Greenwood’s last pass looked a shade forward, but Percival wasn't complaining as he snapped it up to touch down.

Percival goal made it 30-16 Saints still had some defending to do and a dangerous grubber kick was defused by Lomax on the line, then they won a penalty to clear.

The new spirit was epitomised by the three tackles in a row from Morgan Knowles, despite the young back rower looking out for the count.

When Iain Thornley was penalised for tipping Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, the Londoner punished them for it, twisting over after a good pass from Wilkin.

Percival’s conversion made it 36-16, with Rovers restart going out on the full.

And from next attack Turner poked his nose through the line and Peyroux steamed on to it.

Percival added the relatively easy goal.

And to cap a fine last 50 minutes a 40/20 Turner gave Saints the position for Walmsley to drive over between the posts with Percival's sixth goal making it 48-16.

Although the start was poor, the way Saints battled back and particularly how they moved the ball will give some comfort to the home faithful.

There were also positives in the middle, with Alex Walmsley's best game of the year so far setting the tone for some quick play the balls for James Roby to work off.
