SAINTS will look to harness the momentum gained from last week’s heroic win at Warrington as they head into tonight’s clash against an in-form Catalans Dragons.

An injury-ravaged side produced a backs-against-the-wall display to come back from 10-0 down to topple the league leaders and continue their excellent record at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The result has given Keiron Cunningham’s men a big boost ahead of what will be another tough test, with the second-placed Dragons arriving at Langtree Park on the back of five successive wins after a 40-0 drubbing of Hull KR last week.

“I think we have performed really well over the last three games, we’ve worked really hard for each other and I thought the end result of that was on Friday night against Warrington,” said Cunningham.

“We played some really good rugby and scored some good tries and worked really hard for each other.”

Saints have a big task to avoid a third successive home defeat and Cunningham is aware of the threat the French side will pose.

“I honestly thought Catalans would have done well from the start,” he added.

“They’ve spent lots of money on some really quality players and I know we’ve had that for a few years with Catalans but you can’t sign the likes of Glenn Stewart and not be doing a good job.

“They are flying high and they’re on a crest of a wave at the minute so it’s going to be a tough game for us.

“But we’re pretty confident ourselves and we’re playing some really good rugby and the way we’re winning games, we’re playing a really hard-nosed type of rugby. We’re grinding some games out.”

Saints still lie in sixth, standing two points behind the top four in a congested top half of the Super League table and Cunningham says he is happy with the progress the side has made so far this term ahead of successive home games, with Leeds Rhinos the next to visit on Friday, April 22.

“We’re not doing badly and if we keep with this momentum that we’ve got and doing all the right things and you drop the sprinkle of stardom on top of that with what we’ve got sat on the sideline, then it definitely helps things go a bit better.

“I’m happy, we’re not in a bad spot. We’ve got two tough home games and if you do the right things you can pick up more points.

“Every week is important, I don’t think anybody can pick the top eight or even the top four.

“Ultimately after 23 rounds you want to be in the best possible position you can be to get the draw that falls into your favour for the rest of the competition.

“We are mindful of that but consistency is your biggest key and it always is. All we can focus on is what we’ve got a bearing on, which is the performance, which generally leads to results.”
