ONE rugby league fan who signs up for the St Helens leg of the sport's 120th anniversary walk across the game's heartlands will win the chance to march out for the town at the Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

People can participate in the fundraising Founders' Walk, a historic journey taking in the homes of the original 22 members of the Northern Union from Sunday, July 19 to Friday, July 24.

Those that register to take part in the Widnes to St Helens stage could be in with a chance of being the key representative at The Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on August 29.

A spokesperson for St Helens Council said: "The chosen representative will parade around the pitch carrying the St Helens banner dressed in an exclusive rugby shirt in the original design, as well as receiving a replica shirt.

"To top it off, the winner will also be given two tickets for the final to make the day an unforgettable one."

Organised by the sport's charity Rugby League Cares, the walk starts in Hull, travels west across Yorkshire before crossing the Pennines, with the walk coming to an end in St Helens on July 24.

Each day will feature defined stages to give fans and community club players of all ages and abilities the opportunity to take part and raise funds for Rugby League Cares or their own local good cause or club.

Organisers are hoping the event will raise £120,000.

Register by contacting Suzanne Davies at St Helens Council on 676360 or email suzannedavies@sthelens.gov.uk

The St Helens representative at Wembley will be selected at random and notified by Friday, July 31.

Entrants must be 12 years of age or over.
