Swift grabs three as Saints ease through first play-off hurdle

FLYING wing Adam Swift grabbed a hat-trick as Saints coasted through their play-off eliminator largely due to a scintillating opening 40 minutes of free-flowing football.
They go into the next round where they face a sudden death match at champions Leeds on Friday.
Saints survived an early scare to lead 34-4 at the break, and although they eased off in the second half, they never let their hold slip.
Although Rovers shocked the home crowd with a Liam Salter try after four minutes, the rest of the half was one-way traffic.
Saints – with their best attacking display of the season – let rip with first half tries from Francis Meli, a brace from the spring-heeled wing Adam Swift, Sia Soliola, Jordan Turner and Tommy Makinson.
Turner has compounded Rovers’ misery by booting five from six to send Saints in 34-4 at half time.
Although the second half was not as thrilling – with the job done – there were nevertheless some good passages.
Lance Hohaia backed up a great James Roby break to start the second half ball rolling.
And then Swift zipped in at the corner after Lomax had injected himself into the line.
Rovers had the last word when Michael Dobson kicked into space for Craig Hall to score.
