Saints 38 London Broncos 10
10:08pm Friday 9th August 2013 in Latest News
SAINTS have comfortably beaten London Broncos – and at times it looked like the margin was going to be much bigger only for the visitors to monopolise possession for large parts of the last half hour.
It was a patiently constructed win with Jon Wilkin kicking shrewdly at stand off to wear down the visitors.
They took the lead after six minutes when quick hands on the left saw Adam Swift continue his knack of crossing the whitewash.
Jonny Lomax slotted the conversion. Saints were well on top but it was another 15 minutes before they scored again.
This time it was a set piece move in the middle with Stuart Howarth and Jon Wilkin combining to send Louie McCarthy-Scarasbrook storming over.
Francis Meli, again operating in the centre, forced his way over from close range and five minutes before the break Tommy Makinson collected a fine pass from the ever-impressive Jordan Turner to finish off with some style in the corner.
Lomax goaled to make it 22-0 at the break.
The second half was barely three minutes old when Anthony Walker crossed for his first try in Saints colours.
And a complete rout looked on the cards when Lomax dashed on to Wilkin’s clever grubber to touch down and make it 34-0 with nearly half an hour to play.
But London managed to get a bit more possession and territory approaching for a large chunk of the second half.
And that finally paid off with Dan Sarginson crossing on 67 minutes. And then Iliess Macani touched down a bobbling kick from Jamie Soward.
But Saints had the last word when Meli powered over from close range again, to wrap up the scoring with Tommy Makinson missing the goal.
