NEWTON RUFC progressed into to the semi finals of the play offs in style by beating group leaders Prenton 32-5 with one of their best displays of rugby this season.

Newton’s first try came when Kyle Carter ran a perfect angle. Andy McKenna added the extra points and two penalties to extend the lead.

Just before the interval Carter hit almost the same line to score again, McKenna improving for 20-0.

Newton widened their attack and with four perfect passes released wing man Leon Pierce who stepped his man to score in the corner, with McKenna goaling from the touchline.

Sean Storey broke free to storm over for Newton’s final points. Prenton had their moments in the second half and finally broke through the brick wall for a consolation try.
