NEWTON started their season with a 24-19 win over a strong Mossley side.

The conditions suited Newton's style and it was after only four minutes that Sean Storey shot through the defensive line to send Kyle Carter over for the first try while Neil Tonks added the extra points.

Mossley had hardly had time to regroup when Newton struck again, this time after some fast handling Damian Whitter powered his way over the line. The game evened out now Mossley looking more settle, this resulted in their first try making it 12-5 at the break.

Newton struck early after the restart when Sean Storey broke free and sent Kyle Carter racing in for his second try again Neil Tonks added the extras. Mossley now played some of their best rugby and pressurised Newton's line for 15 minutes resulting in a try wide out. Newton gained possession in broken play and fast hands sent Jonny McKenna sprinting in for a try. Mossley again put pressure on and after some slick handling scored under the sticks. Final score 24-19 a hard win but Newton took the bonus points with four tries.

Newton's MOM was Sean Storey with outstanding performances from Kyle Carter and Damian Whitter, we must mention Newton's 80 minute front row who put in a good shift on such a hot day.
