LIVERPOOL St Helens produced a clinical display to see off the Manchester Medics with some ease and go into the Christmas Break in a handy league position.

In the shadow of the Etihad stadium the Moss Laners ran in seven tries to bring their tally of season wins to 10 and set themselves up for an exciting second half of the season.

The Medics started well, moving the ball at speed and looking dangerous in attack. They went ahead with a penalty after six minutes, equalled by Dan Filson five minutes later before regaining the lead after 25 minutes when seizing on a defensive error to register the opening try.

The medics try, far from aiding their challenge, seemed to be just what the doctor ordered for Darren Wilson’s men as they responded in no uncertain style with three tries in the last ten minutes of the first half.

The skipper himself darted over after a catch and drive, Dan Filson converted, followed by a try from hardworking hooker Chris Houlton after a quick tap penalty, with the third scored by one of the young Moss Laners to have made a big impression this season, Paddy Royle, after a breakaway run by Dan Filson.

LSH continued dishing out the medicine in the second half when centre Matt Cunliffe neatly finished off a nice move when the ball was swung out from a well worked scrum, converted by Filson.

Jake Hodson, after making a number of earlier mazy runs, was rewarded with the fifth try, before the home side showed significant fight and character by working their way towards the LSH line and registering their second try in the 60th minute.

LSH responded positively, partly inspired by the addition of Dave Cunliffe into the action at half time, and ran in two more tries.

The first was a trademark finish from Darren Wilson, nipping round the blind side of a scrum and the second from winger Dave Sutton racing down the right wing to score in the corner. 15-42.

After the seasonal break, the next action is at Moss Lane on Saturday 7 January when Oswestry are the visitors.
