LIVERPOOL St Helens put the previous week’s poor performance well behind them with an outstanding display against a young looking Wigan side. Keen to return to winning ways they showed no mercy to their near neighbours rattling up five tries by half time and adding four more in the second half. Just as satisfying was the absence of any score in the points against column.

After a cautious opening, LSH went ahead in the 14th minute when skipper Darren Wilson crossed after a decisive break from Sam Molyneux. Dan Filson converted.

Four minutes later a well-executed catch and drive brought a try for hooker Mario Bonati.

A sparkling backs move in the 27th minute featuring Alex Dean, Andrew Rawsthorne and Jake Hodson then paved the way for a powerful finish from Matt Cunliffe again converted.

This was followed seven minutes later by a remarkable try from winger Jake Hodson, somehow twisting his body to touch down in the left hand corner from the narrowest of angles to secure the bonus point.

LSH added another just before the break when Mark Potter picked up and scored from short range after Matt Cunliffe had been stopped just short of the line. Filson converted to make it 31-0 at half time.

The second half was notable for an excellent hat-trick of tries from winger Dave Sutton and one from former skipper Phil Kearns, benching for the afternoon.

Sutton crashed his way over in the 47th minute after collecting a long pass from Darren Wilson converted again by Filson and scored again ten minutes later after a delightful interchange with Cunliffe down the right flank.

Phil Kearns came off the bench in the second half and delighted the Moss Lane Faithful when scoring with a typical short range effort after a strong LSH drive. Filson slotted the conversion, before Dave Sutton rounded off the afternoon with his hat-trick try just before the final whistle.

LSH travel to Broughton Park on Saturday. 2.15 Kick Off.
