WEST Park travelled to near neighbours Leigh with high expectations of a win after last week’s excellent performance against formidable Cumbrian opposition.

Unfortunately the visitors' aspirations were dashed after a particularly poor first half performance, which overall and puzzlingly lacked sufficient skill and conviction to overcome the home side.

An unconverted try and two successful penalties conceded within the first 15 minutes of the game badly knocked the confidence of the visitors, and conceding a further try just before the interval left them with a challenging 18 point deficit to overcome in the second half.

Park continued to create few chances to score in the second half, unnecessarily continuing to kick away possession, the ball often being returned with interest by a buoyant Leigh side.

The stalemate continued throughout the remainder of the game despite changes to personnel by both sides, and the game drew to a close without any further scores.

West Park will now need to quickly re-group and re-instate a belief in their individual and collective skills to be able to challenge next week’s table topping opposition Kirkby Lonsdale at Red Rocks with the new kick off time of 2.15 pm
