NEWTON'S first home appearance opened with a minuets silence for Mark Sawyer, a local player who sadly died last week.

It took Newton only eight mins to open the scoring when fast hands sent Kyle Carter over for a try, Andy McKenna adding the extras.

Ramsey made Newton work hard for their next points, when after some good interplay Danny Roblin touched down with Mike Ridley converting.

Newton now looked in control, Ramsey could not handle their forwards and it was from a practised forward move that Nathan Whitter hit a gap to stride over the line, Mike Ridley added the extra points.

Just before the break,

Mike Rowe broke clear and put a delicate kick to the corner for Mike Ridley to score an unconverted try making it 26-5 at half time.

The visitors started well by taking their second try,

Newton replied with a classic try from Andy McKenna leaving several Ramsey players in his wake. Ramsey came back with a late burst of energy and scored twice in the last 10 mins. All credit to Ramsey who never gave up in a game which Newton should have kept control of.
