LIVERPOOL St Helens jumped to second in the RFU South Lancs/Cheshire Division One with a hard-earned 26-13 win over Douglas on Saturday.

After reaching the interval adrift after Mark Fry’s try was cancelled out by two from the visitors, LSH produced a stunning second-half performance to snatch the game.

Two tries from Jake Hodson and another from Darren Wilson also secured a bonus-point for the hosts, who are now two points ahead of neighbours West Park.

The opening to the game was quiet and tense, with the visitors opening the scoring via a penalty before Fry got the game’s opening try after a series of controlled drives put him over for a score that Matt Johnstone converted.

However, the visitors hit back and exploited an overlap on the left-hand side to grab the lead.

It got worse for the hosts before the break as a clearing kick was charged down, leading to a second Douglas try that gave them a 13-7 lead at half-time.

That proved to be the catalyst for a superb LSH performance as Hodson grabbed his first shortly after the interval following good work from Johnstone, who converted to put his side in front.

Wilson then got in on the act, collecting a clearance kick before gliding through the Douglas defence to score under the posts.

LSH, now rampant, increased their advantage when Hodson claimed a crucial bonus-point try after a superb break by Jordan Royle to cap an impressive revival.

They had dominated a meeting with struggling Winnington Park in midweek, scoring four tries in each half during a comfortable 52-15 victory at Moss Lane.

A trip to Hoylake is up next.
