WEST Park won this match in the first half playing against the wind and rain, scoring three great tries, however it did not start like that. #

After approximately ten minutes Fraser Lindsay the Winnington Park fly-half put in a huge kick taking them within metres of the home sides line.

The resulting line out was won by the visitors eventually it saw them crash over for a try in the corner, Lindsay stepped up and converted superbly from the touch line to give Winnington a 7-0 lead.

The home side came back strongly scoring a great try. The backs moved the ball from one side to the other resulting in the final pass going to Matt Savage the West Park full back.

A fabulous pick up off his toes saw him score wide out on the left, the same player failed to convert his try.

We did not have to wait too long when another move involving Liam Hill who’s pass released his centre partner Kal Warburton to burst down the centre of the field, he in turn found the West Park second row Lewis Harris up in support for him to cross near the posts. Savage converted to give them the lead 12-7.

With half time fast approaching the home side launched a fantastic attack which saw virtually every player handling, backs and forwards alike, once again “Man of the Match” the athletic Harris found himself with space down the right and was able to hand on to wingman Sam Kerfoot who scored wide out for a fantastic try, the conversion was missed. Half time 17-7.

The second half started and so did the rain and wind increase, however the home side now had the elements in their favour and after some sustained pressure once again the mercurial full back Savage was on hand to score and convert his own try taking the score to 24-7 giving them a fourth try and a bonus point.

The horrendous conditions deteriorated along with the rugby, both sides making uncharacteristic handling errors.

However Winnington did manage a try after a series of driving mauls which took them some 30 metres resulting in a score, this was quickly followed by another repeat performance for a further try, both went unconverted, the score was now too close for comfort at 24-17.

With the light now fading quickly along with clock ticking down West Park were awarded a penalty in front of the posts some 30 metres out, Savage stepped up to kick the penalty and the final whistle went ending the match 27-17.

West Park now have a break for the Christmas period, their next match is on Saturday 9 January 2016 away at Northwich.
