WEST Park travelled to Manchester with a depleted team having suffered a number of injuries from last Saturday, but were successful in scoring four tries for a bonus points victory.

Park were under a lot of pressure from the start conceding a number of penalties, and were hanging on when the Manchester left wing crossed in the corner for a try wide out which went unconverted 5-0.

After 20 minutes Park eventually broke out of their own half, but unfortunately the quick hands of the Manchester backs found centre Evans free on the right, he ran some 70 yards to score once again the conversion was missed 10-0 to Manchester.

A poor defensive kick by the Manchester fly half found the Park prop Williams, who beat the initial cover to feed Danny Green. He carried on the move and in turn gave the ball to Matt Savage the Park full back who outpaced the cover to score a fine try, conversion was missed 10-5.

Very quickly upon the restart Park went up a gear, and some fine interplay by Savage and a great break by Liam Hill transferred the ball inside to the supporting Park hooker Andrew Sterry to score a good try, which was converted by Warren Hunt to give Park the half time lead 10-12.

The second half saw the introduction of Chris Birkett at prop and Josh Ainsworth coming on for the injured Lee Rosney.

Park went further ahead when Savage fielded a poor kick.

Savage then fed wing Hunt who had come inside to make a fine break up the middle of the field, some 50 yards, he in turn handed on to Hill to score under the posts, Hunt converted to put the score 10-19.

Manchester were not finished yet and after a tremendous battering of the Park line their giant No 8 crashed over for a fine try, conversion missed 15-19. Manchester were now inserting enormous pressure on the Park inexperienced pack, however Matt Cozens, Park captain and man of the match was leading by example and tackling everything on the field.

The pressure eventually told when scrum after scrum on the Park line allowed the Manchester prop to score out wide, the conversion was once again missed putting Manchester into a 20-19 lead.

Hill the Park centre had departed injured allowing Ollie Berry to come on,who went on the wing with Ainsworth moving to centre. Park were once again under the cosh in the pack and struggling for possession.

On the rare occasion Park had the ball Savage had come into the line and found Ainsworth in support.

He made a fantastic 40 metre break, up in support was wingman Berry who outpaced the cover to score a truly memorable try under the posts. Hunt converted to take the score to 20-26 in Park favour.

There was still some 15 minutes to play and only resolute tackling from the forwards and particularly the two second rows of Lewis Harris and Anthony Jones, the tireless Paddy Loughnane and No8 Marc Bailey kept Manchester out.

This was a fantastic victory not least considering the amount of young players who had stepped in from the second team, and a mention must go to the coaching staff who have instilled into these young players to be patient and defend without infringements. A tremendous win away from home.
