WEST Park went into this match top of the table and are still unbeaten this season, thanks to a tremendous effort in defence, discipline and patience in the first half.

Adam Smith had come in as a late change at scrum half and acquitted himself well along with the inclusion of Craig Dyas for Joe Bailey who unfortunately suffered a broken leg last Saturday.

After a series of good kicks Northwich found themselves camped out in the Park half for a full 30 minutes.

All credit to Park for not conceding a kickable penalty during this long defence period.

The back row of Loughnane, Cozens and Potter were prominent in defence along with (man of the match) Lee Rosney in the backs, who brought all his experience to help keep the Northwich team at bay. Eventually a long clearance kick out of defence and some great tackling particularly from Kal Warburton, the opposition infringed resulted in a penalty under the posts for Matt Savage to convert 3-0. Park where now playing with much more purpose, a line out close to Northwich line saw them secure the ball and all the eight forwards worked well to drive the opposition back.

This resulted in No 8 Matt Potter scoring the touchdown, Matt Savage added the conversion bringing up half time 10-0.

The second half was a much more open affair, Northwich began to chase the game using their backs a lot more, once again putting a lot of pressure on the Park line.

After a series of scrums they eventually broke down the blind side and fed the right wing Andy Outram who scored wide out, conversion was missed taking the score to 10-5.

The inspired double substitution of Brad Murray and Lewis Harris into the pack brought a fresh impetus to Park, following a series of drives at the Northwich line, Brad Murray eventually crashed over for a try converted by Matt Savage 17-5.

With the game coming to a close Northwich came back and from a resulting line-out they created a rolling maul to score wide out on the left, the conversion was missed with final score 17-10.

A lot of the credit for this victory must go to the discipline instilled into the team by the new coaching staff, and the patience of Park to soak up the pressure for so long without incurring a kickable penalty.
