LIVERPOOL St Helens clinically disposed of the Manchester Medics winning this rearranged South Lancashire/Cheshire One fixture 47-7.

They did so by scoring seven tries, including a hat-trick from skipper Phil Kearns, with a surgical precision that earned a crucial bonus point to keep them in touch with leaders Altrincham Kersal.

While LSH were testing the temperature in the opening exchanges of the game the Medics took full advantage and scored the opening try in the 5th minute after pressuring the Moss Laners line.

For the next ten minutes or so the Medics, with a powerful pack doing well, caused a slight sense of unease in LSH’s ranks until the visitors first real attack produced a trademark try from a catch and drive for Phil Kearns, converted by Smith.

Thereafter LSH took full command with the second try coming from Greg Smith in the 25th minute, slicing through the Medics defence after an excellent series of pick and goes.

Three minutes later, a good run down the right wing from Josh Glover was continued by Jake Hodson, as always looking for work, leading to Ian Stanley running through two tackles to score.

Five minutes before half time, Phil Kearns repeated the dose from earlier on with another try from a catch and drive, converted by Smith to give LSH a 26-7 half time lead.

Soon after half time long serving prop Lee Nevitt, having a great game in place of the injured John Windle was replaced by another Moss Lane legend, Alan Donlevy.

Meanwhile LSH continued in business-like fashion to go further in front with second rowers Mark Potter and Joe Bate, the latter with a number of barnstorming runs, leading the way. A slick passing move all along the back line reached Jake Hodson for the winger to score in the left hand corner. Smith Converted.

Then in the 71st minute from yet another catch and drive LSH skipper Phil Kearns notched his hat-trick, diving through a mass of bodies to score.

And then as the game was approaching its close, there was a thoroughly well-deserved try for Andrew Rawsthorne.

The lively centre has performed really well when given his chance recently and he made no mistake when taking a pass from Smith twenty yards out and sprinting over to score. Smith converted.
