WHAT was billed as a must win game for West Park seconds to keep up the pressure on the teams above them provided one of the season’s best performances.

They saw off a well-drilled Trafford Metrovick side who sat third in the table, winning 37-8.

Park’s front row of Simpson, Simpson and Birkett dominated in the scrum giving Adam Smith time to spread the ball and ease the pressure coming from the Trafford players.

Park replied to an early Trafford penalty with a well-worked Olly Berry try.

Trafford dominated the line-out and came back to eventually break the Park defence and go in at the corner.

Again Park started to move the ball around the pitch and seeing a move from one side of the pitch to the other with a crashing run from Mike Woods fly in at the corner.

The kick from Warren Hunt was converted to make it 12-8 at half time.

The second half saw Park apply the pressure; some great kicking from Dominic Basley saw him find space behind the Trafford defence and giving Park opportunity to take the game to Trafford.

Tries came from Luke McMahon, Ian Williams, Woods’ second and Matty Potter with the result down to teamwork with every man putting in 100 per cent to make a great end to 2014.

Man of the Match was Luke McMahon with some confident running on the wing causing more than a few problems for Trafford.
