WEST Park produced a memorable first half of open and skilful rugby to put last week’s poor performance behind them in their 45-25 win over Manchester.

Following a successful penalty kick by the visitors, it took no more than a few minutes for Park to open their scoring as stand off Lee Rosney eased past the opposition for a try which winger Warren Hunt converted.

Almost immediately after that score Chris Fortune returned the ball, finding full back Matt Savage in support who sidestepped his way over the try line for another fine try, again converted by Hunt.

Park’s forwards were both dominant and industrious in both the set scrums and at the breakdowns, notably through prop Paul Kimberley and man-of-the-match wing forward Patrick Loughnane, ably assisted by his fellow back row forwards Lewis Whitty and Matt Potter.

Centre Basley manufactured the next try as he dummied his way to the opponents line, finding full back Savage again in support to add his second try.

The visitors slotted over another penalty and a converted try left only a six point margin between the teams. From the kick off, however, West Park struck back, and a fine break by stand off Rosney was finished off in style by winger Chris Fortune whose try earned the home side a deserved bonus point.

As half time approached Park went further ahead as Hunt was held just before the line, but the loose ball was deftly gathered up by Matt Cozens to score under the posts, Basley adding an easy conversion.

Cozens was hurt in the act of scoring, and was replaced by Brad Murray for his first team debut.

The half time score saw Park lead 31-13 .

The second half saw Savage complete his hat trick after good work by centre Ainscough, and another try by centre Basley.

Park travel to play Manchester Medics on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
