In a match not as one sided as the score may suggest, West Park had the fly half cry off just before the start which required five changes along with having to bring onto the bench Jim Pye from the third team, who when called upon performed very well.

Altrincham who were undefeated and top of the league, got off to an early lead. The left wing who was an exceptional player scored wide out to give the visitors a 5 nil lead, this was quickly followed by the same player creating a try for his supporting centre to score, 10 nil after approx. 10 minutes.

West Park finally got on the score sheet after sustained pressure, No 8 Matt Potter who was having a fine game broke down the middle and handed on to Liam Hill who dummied his way over for a good try which went unconverted 10-5.

At this stage the game was finally balanced, with West Park young forwards performing very well against an experience pack.

They created a lot of pressure and spent most of the time in the opposition half, only a lapse in concentration allowed the visitors to obtain possession 60 metres out, they quickly moved the ball to their creative backs who finished the move under the posts 17-5.

Once again a lapse in concentration coupled with some poor tackling in the Park backs allowed the opposition to create and score another long range try taking the score to 22-5.

Just before half time the home side managed a try by young wing Olly Berry who scored under the posts Savage converted to bring the score to 22-12 half time.

The second half saw West Park forwards starting to dominate both in the scrums, line outs and open play, Potter, Whitty, Kimberley and Craig Dyas (who was the West Park man of the match) carried the ball forward with a lot of determination.

Unfortunately, Parks backs made little inroads apart from Chris Fortune and Matt Savage who both created many opportunities only to see their efforts come to nothing.

Another purple patch from the Altrincham backs saw them take every opportunity that presented itself to them which were rare, and coupled again with some poor tackling from Park saw them score three further long range tries converting a couple without reply to give a final score 41-12.

Next week West Park take on old rivals Liverpool St Helens away 3pm kick-off.
