BILLINGE pole vaulter Harry Coppell has made the 46-strong Great Britain team of for the IAAF World Junior Championships to be held in Eugene, Oregon on 22-27 July.

The IAAF World Youth pole vault champion is in tip top form after achieving a personal best in Germany last weekend.

Coppell flew out with Team GB to participate in the Mannheim International Junior Gala – his first outing at a junior international. And he was in sensational form, improving his personal best from 5.25m to win with a vault of 5.40m.

That height elevates the former Chapel End pupil up to equal second in the World Junior lists for this year and puts him second in the UK junior all-time lists and of course top of the Power of Ten under-20 rankings.

The youngster still has a further year in the junior ranks.

Coppell said: "I had a very close attempt at the British record of 5.51 – there is a lot more to come!"
