The visitors continued their good form with another impressive win, gaining the maximum 5 league points against a determined home side, bolstered by the return of several of their previously unavailable players .

West Park on the other hand started with two regular players unavailable, and both props carrying injuries into the game, which in the last couple of minutes necessitated uncontested scrums.

Ashton struck early in the contest, and within the first quarter registered two converted tries, to give them a 14 point lead .

The visitors , shocked to find themselves chasing the game so early on, soon began to claw back the lead.

First an excellent try from winger Warren Hunt, which he converted, resultant of good movement of the ball along the backs, involving Hill, Dickenson and John James, was followed by an exceptional piece of individual skill from second row forward Chris Holland who raced some 35 metres to outpace the covering defence to squeeze in at the corner to narrow the deficit to only two points.

Further tries from the visitors followed after the break, again from good ball supplied by the forwards and used intelligently by the backs, giving first Liam Hill and then Karl Millar further scores, both converted by Warren Hunt.

Ashton’s only reply was two successful penalties, and although the scores narrowed the gap, Park dug in take the points in what had proven to be a much tougher and rougher contest than expected.
