A visit to second placed Glossop was never going to be an easy fixture, especially as they had only lost one game all season.

West Park however were not overshadowed despite the home side’s superior size in the pack, and with a little luck could have earned more than a single league point for their efforts.

Glossop scored first and converted their try, but an excellent overall team performance, and good running from their backs, saw the visitors score two tries in response, one from Warren Hunt that he converted, and another from Matt Savage which went unconverted.

The home side hit back and added another converted try before half time, leaving them two points in the lead at 14pts to 12pts.

The second half was a good even contest, although Glossop were guilty on several occasions of killing the ball to prevent Park getting into their stride as their back s looked particularly dangerous with ball in hand.

Somewhat against the run of play, the home side managed to score their third try to stretch their lead to 7 pts, but were very much on the defensive as the match drew to a close, and perhaps fortunate not to have had to share the points on the day.

Next week West Park entertain top of the table and as yet undefeated New Brighton kick off 2.15pm With a firm resolve and a continuation of the good team spirit that currently exists, Park should have every chance of lowering the visitors colours for the first time this season.

West Park 2nd XV 42 pts V Littleborough 2nd XV 11pts.

Next week the 2nd XV travel to Fleetwood
