The visitors displayed a greatly improved performance than shown in recent weeks, and inflicted the heaviest score so far this season on the Douglas side, who have yet to lose a home match.

Despite a whirlwind start by the home side, West Park to their credit weathered the storm, and despite at one point being 20 pts in arrears, were eventually unlucky not to come away with more than a single bonus point earned by scoring 5 tries, albeit in response to the home sides 6 tries.

At half time the score was 15 pts to 5 in Douglas’s favour, with Warren Hunt having crossed for a neat try for the visitors.

Though enjoying reasonable possession West Park conceded two further tries after the interval, but battled back with admirable resolve, and despite leaking further tries, showed that they were not going to lie down to a heavy defeat. As the game entered the final quarter it was the home side that became nervous in the face of a sustained period of pressure from a now rampant Park back line, and tries from Matt Savage , Liam Hill, and Chris Fortune put the visitors back in contention.

A final try , made after a Warren Hunt break and followed on by Kal Warburton, whose timely pass to a supporting Lewis Whitty saw him touch down under the posts proved to be the pick of the scores, with Hunt converting three of the five tries scored.

The team spirit displayed by the Park team was integral to it’s success, and hopefully it will be continued next week to a more successful conclusion in the fixture against Hoylake at Red Rocks , kick off 2.15pm.
