BLACKBROOK Royals lifted the Under 12s Lancashire Cup after a hard-fought 19-12 win over Leigh Miners Rangers at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes at the weekend.
The game began in a lively fashion with both teams looking to attack by spreading the play across the field.
Blackbrook looked stronger in the middle and despite the best efforts of the Miners’ defence Paddy Mayer dived over from close to the line.
The St Helens side continued to press for the remainder of the half, going into the break with an 18-0 lead.
Leigh put up more resistance in the second half and were unlucky not to score themselves when Jerry Akpo was stopped just short of the line.
The powerful forward soon added his name to the scoresheet, busting a few tackles to score a try which was converted by Kieran Tyrer.
Miners went over for a second but Blackbrook half-back Jack Stevens added a drop-goal to secure the victory.
