National winner lined up for Haydock
9:05am Thursday 12th February 2009 in Sport
GRAND National winner Comply Or Die remains on track for the £115,000 Blue Square Gold Cup at Haydock Park on Valentine's Day this weekend.
His potential rivals on Saturday, 14 February include the horse that won the corresponding Haydock Park race last winter in Miko De Beauchene.
On Monday, 17 horses were left in the three and a half mile steeplechase which is a good indicator of prospects for the Grand National for which ten of them hold entries.
With money tighter for many people, the racecourse's admission prices are pegged at midweek levels on Saturday 14 February, starting at £8.
The racing - with well over £250,000 in prize-money on offer - also includes the Blue Square Hurdle, registered as the Rendlesham Hurdle.
The first three home in the race last year - French-trained Kasbah Bliss, Lough Derg and Accordello - could re-oppose this time around.
Dickon White, Haydock Park Racecourse's managing director, said: “With jump racing affected badly because of the wintry weather, it is welcome that we are putting on such a high class series of races.
“Our visitors will certainly be looking forward to the return of Grand National winner Comply Or Die.
“With admission starting at just £8, Haydock Park on Valentine's Day is a very affordable sporting afternoon out.
Accompanied children under 16 years are, as always, given free admission, while senior citizens and students can enter Tattersalls and the Newton Enclosure at half price.”
The opening race is scheduled for 1.20pm, with the afternoon wrapping up at 4.35pm with one of the most valuable amateur race on the calendar - the Blue Square Walrus Hunters' Chase.
Admission: Newton Enclosure £8; Tattersalls £15; County Enclosure £23; Premier Enclosure £34. Accompanied children under 16 enter free.
Senior citizens and students, with appropriate identification, enter Tattersalls and the Newton Enclosure at half price.
