PRESCOT Ladies have won the Greater Manchester Hockey Summer League after a mammoth series of matches.

In the first phase of the competition 10 games were played over five weeks, setting out with the aim of securing a top-four finish in order to progress to the all-important semi finals.

The women won their pool to qualify for League One, while Prescot juniors, in their first tournament, also qualified from their pool into League Four.

Prescot Ladies finished third with 26 points and the juniors won their league with a stunning 28 points.

The juniors won their semi final 3-1 against City of Manchester before going down 2-1 in the final against a very strong Oldham senior side.

Nevertheless, it was a fantastic effort to win a silver medal in their first competition.

In the League One Cup, Prescot Ladies beat hot favourites Didsbury Greys on penalties in the semi finals.

They then defeated Didsbury Northern 1-0 in the decider to claim the main prize.

The 2017 silverware is adding up already, with the Prescot mixed team also winning the annual Golborne 7s for the third time in succession.

Junior and senior training takes place at Sutton Leisure on Wednesdays from 7pm.
