IT was left to St Helens Sutton A.C.’s younger athletes to represent the club in the Manchester & District Cross-country League match held at Manchester University playing fields in Kenworthy Woods, Wythenshawe. Michael Dobson led the way in the Under 13yrs Boys race over 3.5km finishing a pleasing 18th in 11 min.43 secs with Joe Byrne 19th in 11 min.50 secs, Max Young was 49th, 15 min.48 secs and Charlie Young, 50th, 16 min.02 secs completing the team which finished ninth.

In the corresponding Girls event, Hollie Brussels was the club’s first finisher in 13 min.51 secs. for 46th place, with Lucy Bridge and Maddy Forshaw supporting in 52nd and 63rd place with times of 14 min.07secs and 16 min.50 secs. respectively.

The team finished 15th.

In the Under15yrs groups running 4.2km, Michael Brussels led the Boys team and was first finisher in 15 min.37 sec for 23rd place, Charlie Robert ran 16 min.45 secs, 31st and Liam Houghton 19 min.14 secs for 34th.

Alyx Bridge was the only girl in this age group and she finished in 33rd place with a time of 19 min.20 secs.

The club’s only senior lady running was Rachel McGoldrick who ran the 6.9km. course in 30 min.28 secs finishing third in her age group and Andy O’Connor was the only senior man, running over 9.7km recording 48 min.49 secs. to finish 304th.

The club’s star road runner, Gemma Connolly, showed her quality by being the first lady finisher in the Four Villages half marathon run around the Frodsham area.

Her time of 1 hr.9 min.18 secs was good enough to make her the 23rd finisher in the full field.

Ian Pass (M45) was the club’s only finisher in the men’s section in 355th place and a time of 1 hr.36 min.28 secs.
