A busy week of racing for St Helens Striders saw members competing in several races. First up was the Mystery 5k in Wavertree, Liverpool. Striders put in some pretty impressive performances against a quality field. Paul Demore finished in 19.36, Brian Middleton 19.54 and Rich Worsley 20.46.

Saturday saw the return of the monthly 5k Merseyvend in Halewood where clubs across the North West compete against each other. First home was Peter Fairclough in 17.32 continuing his run of recent personal bests. First lady home was Rachael Fishwick in an impressive 19.54. Other PBs were gained by Scott Robertson, 19.49 and Mike Brunt, 27.43.

It was the turn of some longer distance races on Sunday. Gill Lee won first lady V45 at Wigan 10k in a time of 45.36. 6 Striders ran the South Cheshire Harriers annual 20 mile race. For some this was great preparation for their autumn marathons. First home was Paul Demore, 2.22.23, followed by Chris Reade 2.24.22 , Gez Roberts, 2.35.38, Jo Jackson, 3.14.14, Andrea Hill-Jones, 3.26.05 and Deb Hill, 3.57.34.

In the North East, Tammy Jones finished the Bupa Great North Run in 1.57.38, Joanne Keogh 2.01.53, Katie Taggart, 2.04.24 and Amanda Coogan, 2.08.18. Completing the course for charity in a chicken outfit was Colin Leyland in 3.38.51. Follow us on twitter @sthelensstriders.
