OWEN Livesey has won England's sixth judo gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 22-year-old defeated his housemate Tom Reed in tonight's final.

Speaking to BBC Sport afterwards, Livesey, of Haresfinch, said: "I’m really happy to be here for a start and I want to thank all my family for coming up supporting me and all the people back at home for messaging me - it is brilliant.

“It is good to beat someone from your own country. It is a tense situation and the pressure builds even more (but) to go and win in the final is great.

“The English team is on a roll. Two of the other lads who I train with at the club in Surrey have both took golds too, and that put a bit extra pressure on me.

“All this goes down to hard work - I’ve moved away and given lot up at home, worked and trained really hard. I’m a great believer in that you only get out what you put in.

“I’ve put a lot in and so the result is what I wanted.

“Everyone here has the aim of Rio in two years, but there are plenty of tournaments and I need to keep up these performances.”
