The visitors intentions were clear throughout this match, as fielding a large pack of forwards, they showed little desire to include their back division in any obvious attacking moves.

This approach played into the home side hands, literally, as once they were able to counter Tyldesley’s ponderous forward play, West Park’s style of running rugby proved far to strong for the visitors, bringing them a total of eight tries, and thus taking the maximum five league points for the third time in the five game played so far this season.

Wingman Warren Hunt notched a hat-trick of tries, his fellow wing Lee Rosney and supporting full back Danny Green each weighed in with a brace, and back row Chris Dyson once again rather oddly popping up on the wing finished off another flowing move by the backs to also score. As many of the tries were the result of good interplay particularly amongst the backs, the flowing movements along the back line usually led to tries being scored wide out, leaving Hunt with a series of difficult conversions, and thus being only successful with three of his eight attempts.

The visitors themselves scored three tries , each from close range efforts by their large pack, with their captain Jack Williams converting one and adding a penalty. This was a much better performance from West Park than last week, and it was rewarding to see some young and as yet inexperienced players such as Matt Savage and Joey Burrows able to hold their own at this level.

There is however still a need for the home side to find a reliable playmaker and on-field tactician ( a latter day Rob Hitchmough), who would instil organisation and belief in what is as yet a relatively young yet spirited team.

Next week the 1st XV travel to Warrington, the 2nd XV entertain Anselmians at Red Rocks, having lost 26pts to 7pts at Northwich this week, with the 3rd XV face Sefton away.
