Super St Helens win Everton Cup (From St Helens Star)

ST HELENS under 11s footballers created double history in The Everton Cup Final by first reaching the final and now by winning it 4-1.

Despite starting slowly for the opening ten minutes, Reece Arthur in the St Helens goal showed great hands to deny Huyton on several occasions.

Somewhat against the run of play, St Helens took the lead through a curled effort from Marcus Newton.

Huyton equalised before half time through a long free kick that somehow evaded everyone to sneak in at the far post.

Second half began with Jack Smith sneaking up at the back post to slot home from close range following a Kameron Stanley cross.

That was soon followed by Kameron Stanley racing away to score a screamer into the far top corner of the Park End goal.

With the game still tight, Daniel Harrison denied Huyton a certain goal with a point blank save at his near post.

The game was finally sealed following a break away from Adam Fairclough.

A ball over the top was latched on to by Adam who was felled in the box.

Ross Trust stepped up with his trusty left foot to slot home from the spot.

The final whistle brought about joyous scenes from the St Helens lads in front of a crowd of around 2,000 spectators.

Extra celebration came via the awarding of the outstanding player of the match to Kameron Stanley.

Manager Stephen Latham said: “All in all, it was an incredible night.

“Every single lad in the squad played an important role on the night in helping St Helens win.

“Myself and Dean Wallace cannot sum up in words how proud we are to be the coaches of such a talented bunch of lads.”
